OMM's The Planets - 13 August 2014

The Orchestra of the Music Makers will be performing Holst's The Panets, Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms and Sibelius's Violin Concerto on 13 August 2014, Wednesday. Here's more information:

The Orchestra of the Music Makers (OMM) presents a universe of sound on 13 August!

OMM collaborates for the first time with the Vocal Associates Festival and Children’s Chorus in Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and Gustav Holst’s The Planets. This is the first in a series of collaborative performances between the Orchestra and Choirs leading up to the much anticipated performance of Mahler’s 8th Symphony in July 2015.

Boy Soprano Samuel Yuen, fresh from performing in the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra’s production of The Lord of the Rings – Live in Concert, will be the featured soloist in Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms.

Singapore Symphony Orchestra Violinist, and OMM’s Leader-Mentor Chan Yoong-Han makes his concerto debut with OMM in Sibelius’s Violin Concerto.

OMM last performed Holst’s The Planets in a mega Combined Orchestra concert with the Western Australian Youth Orchestra in December 2009, and this is the first time it would be performing the piece on its own.

Joshua Kangming Tan, Associate Conductor with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and Assistant Director with the Guiyang Symphony Orchestra conducts OMM for the first time in this concert.

Holst’s Planets Suite is a musical odyssey through the stars. From the brutal tread of Mars, the Bringer of War, through the dancing joviality of Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity and the ethereal fade-out of Neptune, the Mystic, it will be a dazzling showcase for the Orchestra and conductor, Joshua Tan Kang Ming.
